TIM BRUENING
is back!

Yes, the photographer is back and we’re the first to drop the news. We met him at the opening of his exhibition “Comeback” at Horst Janssen Museum in Oldenburg a few days ago. What? Where has he been and why in Oldenburg? And what have Amanda Plummer, Paz de la Huerta, Nicolas Cage, and Burt Reynolds to do with all this. We were a bit confused too and able to ask Tim a few questions. Read the artist’s answers below. let me read

LINN DA QUEBRADA —
DESTROY LOVE

She is a prophet and a poet, using Brazilian baile funk to fight the dichotomy of power and to amplify the voice of LGBTQ+ community. Linn Da Quebrada started as an actress, and she still works within the realm of cinema. Tranny Fag, a film that profiles her life, won a Teddy Award, the Berlinale awards for excellence in queer cinema, in 2018. It’s an in-depth look at her revolutionary work as a singer and activist, playing with nudity and anything that might seem taboo. let me see

UMFANG —
“I Don’t Hate Basslines”

Known better by her nom de guerre Umfang, Emma Burges-Olson is a producer and DJ as well as one of the founding members of Discwoman, a New York-based collective that started as a festival and nowadays is a fully fledged booking agency with transgressive appeal. Although they only started seven years ago in 2014, they already represent over 300 international female, non-binary and LGBTQ+ DJs and producers. let me read

LOVE CURLY — Ukraina Strong

The idea of what constitutes good art in Post-Maidan Ukraine still seems to be rooted in the old principles: work hard and conform to established standards of beauty. Sure, success might eventually come — though even that is unlikely due to a poorly developed infrastructure of galleries and collectors — but what’s worse: the output generated by the traditionalists is more decorative than avantgarde. Those who challenge the standard aesthetics, on the other hand, are definitely not marketable and remain unnoticed, says Liubov Kucheriava. An artist better known as Love Curly. let me see
